“Now Jesus, full of the Holy Spirit, left the Jordan and was led by the Spirit into the wild. For forty wilderness days and nights he was tested by the Devil. He ate nothing during those days, and when the time was up he was hungry.” Luke 4:1
Have you ever noticed how hard it is to do the right thing when you’re tired?
I think that’s one reason the Lord instituted a weekly day of rest, and why Jesus set the example of taking time away from our everyday stresses to recharge.
Notice that when Jesus was about to begin His earthly ministry and went into the desert for 40 days, that was when Satan came to tempt Him – not as He was walking around Judea, or sailing on the Sea of Galilee. It was when He was physically and spiritually exhausted that the enemy came.
Our enemy comes at us the same way many times. When we’re tired, we can lack the physical and mental strength to resist his schemes. We have to make sure we take adequate time not only to prepare ourselves spiritually for his attacks, but also prepare physically by taking care of ourselves.
Remember – if God Himself took time to rest, so should we!
