I get tired sometimes (and I’m sure you do too) when it seems like that every time a celebrity succumbs to the pressures of performance, abuses their bodies, and leaves the world before their time that the same thing is always said.

What a waste.

Now, I’m not saying that talent was wasted upon them. I’m bothered because each of us has the potential for the same thing to be said about our lives.

What a waste.

In Luke 15, Jesus tells the story of the Prodigal Son. These days, the word “prodigal” calls forth images of stray sheep, of those who were once believers and lost their way.

Did you know, that isn’t what the word prodigal means at all?

It means wasteful.

As in, someone to whom much is given, and they spend it carelessly.

Wasted assets.

Wasted talents.

Wasted potential.
“So the father divided the property between them. It wasn’t long before the younger son packed his bags and left for a distant country. There, undisciplined and dissipated, he wasted everything he had.”

Friends, don’t let the same be said about you. Whatever gifts, whatever talents, whatever blessings God has given you – determine that you will use them for God’s glory, no matter what.

What will you keep from going to waste in your life today?
