“Judas, the one who betrayed him, realized that Jesus was doomed. Overcome with remorse, he gave back the thirty silver coins to the high priests, saying, “I’ve sinned. I’ve betrayed an innocent man.” They said, “What do we care? That’s your problem!” Judas threw the silver coins into the Temple and left. Then he went out and hung himself.” Matthew 27:3-5

I’ve come to believe that Judas is one of the most tragic figures in the Bible.

Is it because he betrayed Jesus? No. All of us have, at one time or another, betrayed Him by our actions. We may not have sold Him for 30 pieces of silver, but we have grieved His heart with our sinful natures.

No, it’s because he gave up before he knew the whole story. All he knew was the sadness of Jesus’ trial and imminent crucifixion. He never knew the hope that Jesus would bring by defeating death and living again.

Too many people in our world have given up on Jesus before they ever know the hope He brings.

Today, let’s look around us and pray for God to show us those in need of His light. Let’s put ourselves in a position to bring hope to a world greatly in need of it.
