“Coming down the mountain, Jesus swore them to secrecy. ‘Don’t tell a soul what you saw. After the Son of Man rises from the dead, you’re free to talk.’ They puzzled over that, wondering what on earth ‘rising from the dead’ meant”. Mark 9:9-10

Noah in the flood…Daniel in the lion’s den…Jonah in the whale…what do these things have in common with Jesus’ teachings?

A paradigm shift.

None of these events had ever happened before. It had never flooded the entire earth, mainly because it had never rained. It was almost too much to imagine for Noah and his family, but still they believed and were saved because of it.

No one had ever been put into the lion’s den and lived to tell about it – but thanks to God’s protection, Daniel did.

No one had ever been swallowed up by a big fish and spit back out on dry land three days later – but Jonah was as God tried to teach him, and the people of Ninevah, a lesson.

Several times in Jesus’ ministry He tried to tell His disciples what was going to happen to Him, but they could not wrap their minds around it. “Raised from the dead? What in the world does He mean by that?” Even though they had seen Him perform that same miracle for others, they had no understanding that He was about to conquer death, hell, and the grave Himself.

They had to have a complete change in how they thought about the world and their place in it.

What God calls us to do is simple, but it’s so radical it will rock our worlds. Listen closely to His call with an open heart and mind, and you will do great things for the Kingdom.
