“…to grant to those who mourn in Zion—to give them a beautiful headdress instead of ashes, the oil of gladness instead of mourning, the garment of praise instead of a faint spirit;that they may be called oaks of righteousness, the planting of the Lord, that he may be glorified.” Isaiah 61:3
Sometimes, you have to fight the frump.
You know what I’m talking about – you’re feeling down in the dumps inside, and your outsides show it: disheveled hair, no makeup, and clothes that are two sizes two big and belong in the dustbin and not on you!
It takes effort, but often just the act of changing your clothes, dusting yourself off, and making your outsides presentable can do wonders to make your insides sparkle as well.
What works in the natural can also work in the spiritual.
God’s word tells us that He will give us “a beautiful headdress instead of ashes, the oil of gladness instead of mourning, the garment of praise instead of a faint spirit…” He gives us a change of spiritual clothes, and in return we will be called “oaks of righteousness, the planting of the Lord, that He may be glorified.”
It doesn’t do the Kingdom any good to have Christians who are moping around all the time! Let Him help you fight your spiritual frump. Let Him take those things that are bothering you and keeping you from shining His light to the world around you, and turn them into something beautiful. In the process, He will turn you into something beautiful, too.
