“A thief is only there to steal and kill and destroy. I came so they can have real and eternal life, more and better life than they ever dreamed of.” John 10:10

When a home is broken into, it is a traumatic experience. Those who have been victimized by the crime say that, more than the things that were stolen, their sense of security is perhaps a bigger loss.

Usually, thieves have a reason why they target certain homes over others: potential.

Thieves are more likely to target homes in upper-class neighborhoods, for example. Why? Because the criminals might not know for sure what is inside each house, but they know that the better the neighborhood, the more potential there is that expensive items will be inside. Unless they have prior knowledge, they usually don’t waste their time breaking into poor, disheveled homes. It just isn’t worth their trouble.

The Bible teaches us that there is an enemy afoot, waiting to “steal, kill, and destroy.” He isn’t omniscient – he doesn’t know everything the way God does – but he knows that we have potential. When we are children of the King, he knows that we have the potential to become more like our Heavenly Father and be effective for His kingdom.

He wants to steal our potential, to kill our sense of self, to destroy the destiny that God has put inside of us. But God sent His son, Jesus, to be our spiritual security guard. Where Satan would traumatize us and cause us to draw up into ourselves, Christ came to earth so that we could have the full, abundant life God always intended.

Don’t let the enemy thwart God’s plan for you. Run to the safety of your Heavenly Father and let Him bring you into the life He intends for you to have.
