“If my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and I will forgive their sin and will heal their land.” 2 Chron. 7:14

Why did God include the phrase “humble themselves” in today’s passage? You would think that He would be satisfied, or even pleased, that the Israelites were turning to Him at all! I mean, God was not high on their list of priorities at the time. Shouldn’t the mere effort be enough.
No. No it wasn’t. They had to come before Him with a contrite heart and a teachable spirit, or He wasn’t going to be able to give them the help they needed. There was going to be some course correction coming their way, and they  needed to be obedient.

The same instructions stand for us today. Whenever we come before God in prayer, we must be humble, pliable, and teachable. We have to be ready and willing to obey whatever instructions He gives us.

He may ask you to apologize to one person, or to forgive another. Maybe He will remind you of something He has already said. Regardless of the message, keep your heart and mind open to whatever He says – and then be ready to obey.
