“Now Samuel did not yet know the Lord : The word of the Lord had not yet been revealed to him.” 1 Sam. 3:7
It can be so, so frustrating when those we care about are not following the Lord’s teachings. After all, we think, isn’t it obvious? I mean, there it is in black and white. Why can’t they see it?
Simply put, because they can’t.
The Bible teaches us that it’s the job of the Holy Spirit to open up God’s word to us. Without Him, we won’t be drawn to the Father and we won’t be able to clearly understand Jesus’ ways. Remember when He told His followers, “Let those who have ears to hear?” It’s because not everyone was ready to have their understanding opened to what He was trying to teach.
We must pray for the lost around us that first, the Spirit would draw them, and then that He would open their hearts. He will make them receptive at the right time. We have to pray and be ready should He ask us to play a part.
When you think about it that way, it takes a lot of the pressure off of us, as imperfect humans, and leaves it squarely in the hands of our perfect Savior.
