“Keep your eyes on Jesus, who both began and finished this race we’re in. Study how he did it. Because he never lost sight of where he was headed—that exhilarating finish in and with God—he could put up with anything along the way: Cross, shame, whatever.” Hebrews 12:2
Keep your eyes on Jesus – it isn’t a suggestion, it’s a necessity!
Just like “rubbernecking” at an accident scene really doesn’t do us any good (and puts us at risk for another accident – take it from someone who has been rear-ended!), so too it isn’t in our best interest to get preoccupied with the annoyances and inconveniences we encounter in our everyday life. Doing so means we can momentarily forget about our end destination as we get involved in the problems at hand.
We keep our eyes on Him because He is the ultimate example. He started the race, and finished it, in the most glorious way possible. Only through looking at how He did it will we be successful in the end.
Don’t let the things of this world break your concentration. There is a destination He has for each of us, and we won’t make it if we get caught up in a spiritual traffic jam. If He can keep His focus on His calling through all He endured, we can, and must do the same.
We have to keep constantly striving for that goal, and we have to keep moving forward. Keep your eyes on Him!
