“Every branch in me that does not bear fruit he takes away, and every branch that does bear fruit he prunes, that it may bear more fruit.” John 15:2
You have heard the expressions, “Into every life, a little rain must fall” and “It rains on the just and the unjust.” The upshot of these aphorisms is that no matter who you are, you will have problems. No one is immune from the troubles of this fallen world.
Why do bad things happen to good people? It’s an age-old question with no easy answer. We do live in a sinful, fallen world. But God sometimes allows His children to face difficulties so they can be “pruned.” Sometimes, we have things in our lives that keep us from growing as we should. Trials refine us and help us fulfill our destiny in Him.
Good, bad, young, old, rich, poor – it makes no difference. We all have problems to face. As believers, we should ask the Lord to show us what He is pruning out of our lives. Ask Him what work He is performing in you and for the strength to endure. And then praise Him and believe that the answer is on the way.
