“Do your best to present yourself to God as one approved, a worker who has no need to be ashamed, rightly handling the word of truth.” 2 Timothy 2:15
My daughter comes home frequently with some “facts” she has learned from friends at school. Call me a cynic, but I tend to be skeptical of anything that middle schoolers “know” that I, being many years their senior, have never heard! Usually, a quick internet search can prove once and for all what the real facts are.
It’s important that my daughter has the truth implanted in her, both in a secular and a sacred sense. The more truth she is exposed to, the more easily she can resist falsehood.
This is the same reason we must diligently study God’s word. There is a lot of “truth” floating around out there, both from man’s misunderstanding and from Satan’s lies, whispered into our spirit. We must have God’s truth, revealed through His word, rooted deeply in our hearts. It is our only recourse against the assaults of the enemy.
I challenge you at the beginning of this new year to evaluate your study of God’s word. Reacquaint yourself with His promises. Resolve to make it a priority in your life, not an option.
The more you know, the more you will grow in your relationship with Him. There is no time like the present to get started!
