“The Word became flesh and blood, and moved into the neighborhood. We saw the glory with our own eyes, the one-of-a-kind glory, like Father, like Son, Generous inside and out, true from start to finish.” John 1:14

My husband and I had never been able to purchase our own home. Several severe financial setbacks kept us as renters long after many of our peers had become homeowners. Then, we were unexpectedly given the opportunity to purchase a home right next door to my parents!

That wasn’t the only surprise coming our way, though – a week after we moved, I was unexpectedly offered a job that would take my commute from seven minutes to 30. Several people have asked why we didn’t move closer, but I have to explain the chain of events. We can’t just pack up and leave – we are invested in this location.

God invested in us when He sent His son to earth. Jesus came to live among us – not just dropping by occasionally, but moving in. It was the only way we could have a real, tangible example of how we should live.

What unspeakable love He showed us. He could have stayed in Heaven and issues edicts from on high as He had for generations. But He chose to become one of us to point the way back into relationship with Him.

Have you welcomed Him into your neighborhood?
