“But godliness with contentment is great gain,  for we brought nothing into the world, andwe cannot take anything out of the world.” I Timothy 6:6-7

Look around at the world you live in. Especially if you live in America. There is greed (seemingly) everywhere. No one is satisfied with anything. People want bigger, faster, stronger, MORE.

Unfortunately, this mindset has become a hallmark of some segments of the church.

You know people like this, and so do I. Never satisfied. Never content. Always trying to gain more…but to what end? Paul wrote to Timothy that “Godliness with contentment is great gain.” It doesn’t benefit us to just be Godly, or to just be content. We must have both for our lives to be complete.

Paul goes on to explain that we brought nothing into this world, and we will take nothing out. My Pastor is fond of saying that hearses don’t tow U-Haul trailers.

Have you let discontentment seep into your life? Take a minute and reflect on your motives and means. Are we striving for things that are temporary, or things that are eternal? Let’s make sure that we don’t let the world influence us – let’s be the ones to influence the world, and show them what real contentment looks like.
