“It is good for me that I was afflicted, that I might learn your statutes.” Psalm 119:71
My family runs a small catering company. They mainly work with cafeteria management, but every couple of months they also do other events like small weddings or banquets.
They came into this business almost a decade ago, quite unexpectedly. No one had taken a class in Catering 101! Their operation is informed by the life experiences they brought into the business, but it is trial-and-error that keeps it growing. Each time they work an event, they gain valuable insight into how to do it better. If they were still providing service the same way they did in the beginning, there probably wouldn’t be much of a business left!
It’s through trial-and-error that we learn God’s way too. We make a decision, have a problem, or face an unknown, and time and again we return to His instruction book – the word.
Each experience, no matter how painful, will bring us closer to Him…but only if we allow it to. Our best bet is to learn from our trials and mistakes so we don’t have to endure them more than necessary.
