“You keep him in perfect peace whose mind is stayed on you, because he trusts in you.” Isaiah 26:3
I was trying to go to bed at a decent hour. But, every time I thought the room was conducive to sleep, there it was: tap, tap, tap. It took me three trips out of bed to discover the culprit: a hanger on the other side of my bathroom door, swinging in the breeze from the air conditioning. Removing it brought the complete peace I needed to fall asleep.
Sometimes, we need peace in our lives, but there is this little, irritating thing that keeps getting in our way. That isn’t what God has promised. He provides perfect – complete – total peace. He doesn’t promise that all of our problems will be instantly solved, but He does promise to provide peace in the midst of them. Relying on that promise is sometimes what helps us cope until our answer comes.
The way to access this peace is by keeping our focus squarely on God. It isn’t always the easiest thing to do, but it is essential to making it through our struggles.
Don’t get sidetracked by that little thing destracting you. Fix your eyes on God and He will bring calm to your storm.
