“He who has prepared us for this very thing is God, who has given us the Spirit as a guarantee.” 2 Corinthians 5:5

A group of about two dozen from my church is on the ground in the Dominican Republic right now. They are working alongside locals to erect a new church building and participating in other ministry. They range in age from teenagers to seniors, and hail from every walk of life imaginable.

For months,  they have been preparing. Training. Readying themselves for this task. It hasn’t been easy, but it would be foolish to send them unprepared.

Our Heavenly Father has us in training, too. It’s to make us fit for eternal life with Him. Every trial, every obstacle we face is preparing us, refining us, making us more like Him. Along the way, our lives become a testimony to the world around us of His power, glory, and grace.

Our heart and flesh may fail, but our God never will. He has given us His spirit as a guarantee that He will complete the preparations He began in our lives.

Life is hard. We are stretched beyond what we think we can bear at times. But we have to keep our final destination in sight. One day the preparations will come to an end, the task will be over, the goal will be reached. Hallelujah!
