“The shepherds went back to their flocks, glorifying and praising God for all they had heard and seen. It was just as the angel had told them.” Luke 2:20

Not many things in this world live up to the “hype” or “buzz” surrounding them. How many times have you gone to a movie, tried a new restaurant, or bought the latest gadget, only to be disappointed? As the saying goes, if it’s too good to be true,  it probably isn’t.

Jesus’ birth was a different story entirely.

What other human on this planet has been heralded by angels? Who else has had their arrival announced by the choirs of Heaven? I’m sure those shepherds had their doubts as they trudged towards town. I mean, really? A baby, in a feed trough, in a stable, is going to be the Savior of the world?

We don’t know how long it took the shepherds to find Jesus, but I’m sure they were becoming more doubtful with each step. But then…

… there was the baby, just as the angels has promised.

It was true. The moment they saw Him, they believed. His arrival really did live up to what they had been promised.

Maybe you have been given a promise by God. Maybe it’s something general from His word, like peace or victory over sin. Maybe it’s a specific word He has spoken into your spirit about your personal situation. You have been waiting so long, searching so hard, that you become more doubtful by the day. But let me encourage you, friend: when it happens, it will be just as you were promised. The moment it comes to pass, you will know it has been done. And just like the shepherds, you won’t be able to contain your excitement.

I don’t know what impossible situation you find yourself facing today. What I do know is that we can cling to God’s promises and be sure of one thing: He always lives up to His “hype.”
