“For the word of God is alive and powerful. It is sharper than the sharpest two-edged sword, cutting between soul and spirit, between joint and marrow. It exposes our innermost thoughts and desires.” Hebrews 4:12
My 12-year-old daughter burst into the room. She had been reading a Bible passage for a school assignment.
“I know I’ve read this before, but how did I miss that Jesus had brothers?“
She is young and just starting on her study of Scripture, but she just experienced the first of many “light bulb moments.” You know the feeling – you have read a passage, maybe many times, before. All of a sudden something leaps off the page and unto your spirit and changes your whole perspective.
Will there be days when we read and it seems like nothing happens? Of course. But the more we dig, the more light bulbs we will have go on. God’s word really is alive, and it really will change us – one flickering light bulb at a time.
