“No, dear brothers and sisters, I have not achieved it, but I focus on this one thing: Forgetting the past and looking forward to what lies ahead, I press on to reach the end of the race and receive the heavenly prize for which God, through Christ Jesus, is calling us.” Philippians 3:13-14

Is anyone around here old enough to remember the 56K modem? Back in the day (and for me, that was my college years) it was considered the height of connectivity. Of course, the World Wide Web was in its infancy then, and there wasn’t nearly as much information to transfer!

Eventually, though, it became sluggish. We needed more. We needed a better way to connect, and we stopped settling. We grew and changed, and so did our technology. The cycle continues today.

Our walk with Christ should grow and change as we travel this journey as well. What satisfied our soul when we first start out should become inadequate as we long for more of Him. He never changes, but as humans we can develop our hunger and thirst for him.

Every so often, it’s helpful to take stock of our relationship with God. Have we become complacent, satisfied with “just enough” of Him? Or are we, like Paul, forgetting former things and pressing on to a deeper walk with Him? Where are we on the path towards our goal?

We serve a great big God, and we can never reach the end of Him. Press in, press on, and press upward, because yesterday’s satisfaction level won’t help you draw closer to Him.
