“But these are written so that you may continue to believe that Jesus is the Messiah, the Son of God, and that by believing in him you will have life by the power of his name.” John 20:31

We know that the Scriptures exist so that, generations later, we can know what God has done, is doing, and will do. God’s Word to us in the present day gives us reason to believe in Him and place our trust in Jesus. The Gospels are like photographs of Jesus’ ministry so we can see where He was and what He was doing.

But did you ever think that the writings were also meant to encourage those who had been eyewitness to the events? Think about it: if Satan tries to whisper in our ears that God didn’t really do what we just saw Him do, that His work in our lives wasn’t real, I’m pretty sure he tried the same tactics a couple thousand years ago!

We don’t just have photos on our walls to document the present – we keep them on the walls to remember the good times in our past. The Word served as an encouragement to those early Christians and a reminder of what God had been up to. If He did it then, and He never changes, the Great I AM can do it again!

Let His Word encourage you today, too. Look at the “snapshots” of Jesus’ life and let them press you to keep on, keeping on.
