Go read Exodus 14 and consider the plight of the Israelites. They had just been delivered from 400 years of slavery, headed to the land that had been promised to their forefathers.
How terrifically exciting and terrifying that must have been, all at the same time.
I’ve lived long enough, though, to know there were probably those in the crowd with doubts about their new adventure. After all, Egypt wasn’t perfect, but it was the only home they had ever known. And now here they were, facing who knows how long of a journey, through unknown terrain, to a place they had never been. No Internet existed to give them 360° views of their new accommodations!
And just about the time some may have started to have thoughts of turning back, who shows up but Pharaoh’s army. They were literally trapped between the Devil and the deep blue sea!
At times like these, God “hems us in” for our own good. Think about the doors that have shut in your face, the decisions that were practically made for your, or the “no going back now” moments in your life. You can look on those in a negative, “Why me?” way. Or, you can see them as God working to guide you along His path, to keep you going in His direction. He needs us to keep moving forward towards His destination for us.
I encourage you today to view these situations from a new perspective, and see if God was guiding you away from a poor choice and towards a better one. After all, only He knows the end from the beginning, and He knows how to get us from Point A to Point B.
